Romeo on GBH Charge
August 10th

RAP star Romeo appeared in court yesterday charged with a violent attack after a man was stabbed several times during a row.

The 24-year-old former star of the So Solid Crew was accused of GBH with intent and violent disorder.

A man suffered stab wounds, including a six-inch slash to his face, in the early hours of Sunday.

Romeo, real name Marvin Dawkins, appeared with two other men at Bow Street magistrates court in central London.

Julian Dawkins, 26, of Rotherhithe, South East London, and Thomas Engola, 27, of Battersea, South West London, face the same charges.

Wearing a white T-shirt, Romeo looked straight ahead with his arms folded as the details of the alleged attack were read out.

The incident between the victim and a friend and a group of around seven is said to have started after a disagreement at a car park in Soho, central London, on Sunday morning. The accused were arrested at 4am.

Romeo, who was represented by Kieran Garvin, said nothing during the half-hour hearing in front of District Judge Christopher Pratt.

The rapper has recently launched a successful solo career. His single I See Gulls was used by Lynx as part of an advertising campaign.

He also appeared in the Channel 4 show The Games with Katy Hill and Charlie Dimock.

All three men were remanded into custody until they appear at Southwark Crown Court on August 16.

Police are still looking for two other people in connection with the incident.

I SEE GIRLS
Released 10th November 2003

When MC Romeo, singer / songwriter Harry Brooks & producer JD aka
Dready got together in studio B at EMI Recording Studios, the result
was the sexy, street, urban track 'I See Girls (Crazy)' to be
released on 10th November.

Harry Brooks slick songwriting skills and versatile singing voice
coupled with Romeo's unique rapping styles has seen `I See Girls'
(Crazy) already acclaimed as one of the standout tracks of the year.

`I See Girls' (Crazy) is also being used as the soundbed for the new
Lynx advert that is due to be aired on prime time TV and in cinemas
from October 1st in a multi-million pound advertising campaign.

Harry Brook's genuine talent and passion for music saw him first
start writing songs in his early teens. He made his first serious
appearance on the music scene when he laid down vocals for the
track `Sex Go Round' when he was just 16. The Jaimeson remix of his
track was massive on the underground and Harry gained huge
recognition off the back of it. Harry has currently self penned
numerous original tracks and earlier this year Blue picked up one of
his songs, `You Make Me Wanna' for their One Love album and also as
a single release, and with the success of this many more artists are
lining up to work with him. Harry's diverse influences include
Marvin Gaye, Usher, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. He is
currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to his debut
album.

Right from So Solid Crew's debut release on Relentless Records in
the autumn of 2000 it was obvious that Romeo was something special.
His laid back style is instantly recognisable. So Solid Crew's half
million selling number one single "21 Seconds" was undoubtedly the
springboard for Romeo's solo career. After winning awards at the
Mobo's, the Brit Awards, a number one single, a banned tour and more
headlines than any other British Group since the Sex Pistols, Romeo
has stepped out on his own to prove he is more than a streetwise
teen heart-throb and to confirm his status as a pioneering
contemporary urban artist.

`I See Girls (Crazy)' signature is sure to keep you warm well into
Winter!

So Solid Excuses

SO Solid Crew's Romeo has an interesting theory as to why their new
album has only made it to No 70 in the chart. The handsome star
blames poor sales on the number of bootleg versions of 2nd Verse.

Romeo - currently recording a tune for a new Lynx deodorant ad -
tells us: "Our album sales are fiddled because there are a lot of
pirate copies sold on the street.

"I've had to pull people up about it - it's taking food off our
plates."

But he also says he understands why people copy their songs. "I
understand the people flogging it on the streets have to make money
and feed their families - when I think of it like that it doesn't
annoy me too much, but it does affect our chart performance."

Romeo at the Games
Romeo was at the games on Thursday 11th September cheering on Harvey hope you all saw him cos he looked as fit as eva.
Romeo was on RISE on 30th April talking about some gig or other anyway he said something about a new album i think he means with so solid crew tho. The woman said hes fit when he'd gone off the phone lol.
Romeo Done?

So Solid Crew singer Romeo is shopping around for a record deal after his label went bankrupt. Relentless Records, who have released singles by Daniel Bedingfield, DJ Pied Piper and So Solid Crew, went into liquidation last week owing more than 3m in debts.

The high cost of marketing Romeo's debut album, Solid Love, was cited as one of the factors in the Relentless collapse. Romeo's album went on to sell just 37,000 copies.

Romeo's spokeswoman said: "Romeo is in negotiations with other labels." Although if hard times are a-knocking for the So Solid star, he might want to consider a TV presenting career like his bandmate MC Harvey. How about a cookery programme...we're thinking So Solid Chew? Or a feature on celebrity toilets, So Solid Loo perhaps? Then there's the boating show Row Row Romeo, Gently Down The Stream... [Enough! - Ed.]From Top of the pops news lets hope he gets a new deal soon.

Romeo Found It Difficult Chatting Up Christina Milian
So Solid Crew star Romeo has revealed to Radio 1 that he tried to pick up on Christina Milian when the two recorded the video for 'It's All Gravy,' but it didn't go so well. "What it was, it was a jump in jump out thing, you know. Went over there, shot the video and come straight back," he said. "Now, it is obviously hard for me to do that Romeo thing when there's members of the family standing right opposite you gazing in your face, you see what I'm sayin'? So I kinda just distracted the situation, got her phone number, and it's just gone on from there you know. But those are trade secrets - I just chilled with Christina and we just got along like a house on fire."
