It is a mournful bookmark of the history of Islam. About 500 years ago, the christian king Fardinand cheated thousands of muslim people in the capital of Spain on this day. The World Christian community mark this day as "April Fool". Alas! some of our muslims, specially the young people, also do as the christians on this day.

In the year of 1492 AD, the christian people attacked the capital of Spain and declared that if the muslim people open the main gate of the city without war and take shelter on the mosques with no ammunition, then the muslim people would be free without any bloodshed.

Trusting on the words of Fardinand, the helpless muslim people did as he said and then the christian people locked the doors of the mosques so that they can kill these people on fire. This is the history of April 01.

On March 26, 1971, independence of Bangladesh was formally declared, leading to the Liberation War against the Pakistani occupation forces and resulting in the emergence of a sovereign state on the global map.

After the Pakistani forces brutally cracked down on the unarmed people of the then East Pakistan on the night of March 25, 1971, the Bangalees fought for independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu and joined an all-out guerrilla war.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh's independence at 00:30 hours on March 26 after the Pakistani crackdown, just an hour before he was taken prisoner from his Dhanmondi Road-32 residence.

People at large took up arms, Bangalee policemen and paramilitia men and army personnel defected and trained the people for war. They fought without proper food, shelter, training, or firearms. But it was the determination to free their motherland and the all-out support of the people that finally saw the birth of a nation nine months after March 26,1971.

After many years of political and economic exploitation, the Bangalees' nationalist sentiments paved the way for the massive victory of the Awami League led by Bangabandhu in the 1970 Pakistan national elections.

The Pakistani junta in the then West Pakistan, however, refused to hand over power to the then East Pakistanis. They stalled installation of the newly elected parliament and started ethnic genocide aimed at extinguishing all signs of Bangalee nationalist movement.

In the face of this, the inevitable declaration of independence came on March 26, 1971.
