| My First Day in Pompeii | ||||||||
| IV Aprilis LXXIX AD XI AM Now I'm here in Ancient Pompeii. I've been waiting so long for my time machine to be finished. But since I'm here, I'm not going to think about 2002, just about 79. First Priority: Market! At the moment, I'm wearing an Ethiopian dress my mom lent me. It looks sort of Roman. But I really want to feel Roman, so I'm going to dress like a Roman, I also need food and drink. My dad, who collects coins, happened to have broze quadrans' (1,600 to a gold aureus), silver denarius' (25 to one aureus) and some brass sesterius' (100 per aureus). Hannah II PM Ooooh! I got some lovely tunics at the market! 2 are plain blue linen. But one... well, one is extravagant! It's a coppery-ish silk that's soooo pretty. I'm wearing one of the blue ones now. I was going to stop at the tunics, but everyone was wearing jewelry and I felt like I stuck out. I bought a beaten gold necklace/anklet/bracelet set. I decided not to buy makeup, though. I did buy food. And what food at that! Cabbage, lettuce, onions, garlic, lentils, beets, sausage, eggs, cheese, fish, shellfish! There were more things, too. Wow! The Romans had a VERY balanced diet! Some people were selling what THEY called a delicacy, snails! More people were selling fried dormouse! Disgusting! Luckily, I don't have to eat those things. I'm really going to have fun here in Pompeii! |
