THE BEATTITUDES SPOKEN BY JESUS DURING HIS SERMON ON THE MOUNT REMINDS US TO HAVE HOPE AND FAITH IN THE LORD AND TRUST HIS MERCY. THOSE, WHO IN THIS LIFE ARE POOR IN SPIRIT, MOURNFUL, MEEK OR PERSECUTED FOR THEIR FAITH, NEED NOT WORRY FOR THE LORD WILL NOT ABANDON THEM. ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS TO TRUST IN THE LORD'S MERCY FOR THEIR REWARD WILL BE GREAT IN HEAVEN.   IT ALSO TEACHES US THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE OBSESSED WITH AND CHASE AFTER WEALTH, POWER OR FAME FOR OUR OWN SELFISH GLORY. RATHER, EVERYTHING WE DO MUST BE FOR THE GREATER GLORY OF GOD AND HIS CHURCH ON EARTH. WE MUST USE OUR TALENTS AND ALL THE GIFTS THAT OUR LORD HAS GIVEN US FOR HIS GLORY, NOT OUR SELFISH ENDS. WE MUST SHARE OUR GIFTS AND TALENTS AND USE THEM TO SERVE OTHERS  AND SHOW THEM GOD'S LOVE WORKING THROUGH US.
THE BEATTITUDES
--Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
--Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
--Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
--Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
--Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
--Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
--Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
--Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
--Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.
