| Aemilius Gens Roman architecture report A long time ago there were two cities, one was called Rome, and one was called Athens. They werent very similar, but they had a great commonality in architecture. The architecture we are focusing on in this report is Roman architecture. In the early times a small city called Rome was founded in the western part of Italy. The original founders had a great idea for how to build the city. They mapped out baths, temples, palaces, forums, arenas, markets, arches, theaters, and courthouses. They had a new idea for ways to build these places. There was a man named Dorius who thought of using Erudition columns from the Greeks. This idea a first seemed impossible. They thought that a pillar couldnt hold up the roof of a building. Dorius decided to make a building anyway with this design. He designed a forum that is ruined but still stands in the center of Rome today. This is the remains of the forum as it stands today. Dorius then named the Erudition column after himself, calling it the Doric. The Romans also created two other columns, but it is not sure about who created them and why. Those two columns are called Ionic and Corinthian. These are examples: After Rome had been laid out it was up to an architect named Michelangelo to color the city. The people of Rome were amazed about how the city had seemed to change overnight. Michelangelos painters worked so quickly they had painted the inside of Vatican City in 5 days! The most key point of Roman architecture though was the columns. They can be found today on The Supreme Court building, the Air and Space, Natural History, Flight, and American History Museums. You can also find columns on The White House and National Art gallery. If you go around your house most chances are you will have a column somewhere. Although the column was the key thing in Roman architecture there were many other great things in the city. You would have to go there to see it and believe it. One thing is for sure though and that is that almost anywhere you look you can find a great example of Roman architecture. |
