The Fifth Doctor - Peter Davison  1981 - 1984
After the departure of Tom Baker, it was felt that the new Doctor should be radically different to his wild eyed, dark curly haired portrayal.  As such the blonde haired Peter Davison was cast.  His incarnation was much less manic than his predecessor, outfitted like an Edwardian Cricketer, Davison was much more mild mannered.  A much younger actor than his predecessors, he was less of a Grandfather or Uncle figure to his assistants and more like an older brother.  Davison could also play much more the young hero as the Doctor showing strength of character, vulnerability and courage.  Davison's Doctor had a fittingly heroic departure, sacrificing his life so that his companion might live.

Another feature of Davison's tenure was the return of the character of The Master, portrayed by Anthony Ainley, and part of this return was for the Master to turn up in some stories as the villian, in disguise in a funny costume!!  In most cases it was quite obviously the Master, and his 'disguises' include, Kalid (Time Flight), a Fu Man Chu oriental wizard type character, with a funny voice, it is evident in one of the scenes he has with Peter Davison that Davison is having a jolly good laugh while he thinks the camera isn't on him.  Another one is Sir Gilles (The King's Demons) a French Knight apparently in service to King John, who sounds like the french bloke from Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
