TAAL Batangas |

A dream came true, when Charina Cabrera (now Osano) and Jun Osano offered to take me to Taal on a photography tour for Cha's Architectural Thesis. An officemate named Eng showed me a small paperbound book entitled The Mysteries of Taal by Thomas Hargrove. He was an American working in the International Rice Research Institute in Laguna (IRRI) and a scuba diver who was mesmerized by Taal and its violent and mysterious past. The same effect haunted me and prompted me to buy the book and finish it in one sitting. I dreamt of following the tracks of the author to rediscover in my own way the Mysteries of Taal. I visited the cathedral, the famous Caysasay church, a witness to Taal's violent eruptions in many years, the old houses and embroidery shops of Taal, the beaches of Lemery, Pansipit River, Lumang Lipa and more. |
