Cagayan de Oro City
The City of Golden Friendship

     C
agayan de Oro is located along Macajalar Bay in the Central Coast of Northern Mindanao. It serves as regional center for Region 10.  It is bounded by Brgy. Bugo on the east , on the west of Brgy. Iponan; and Brgy. Tumpagon on the south.  Its total land area is 48,885.83 square kilometers.

I took a flight from Manila to Davao and stayed in the Osano's in Bislig, Surigao del Sur for a couple of days.  Jun surprised me with an unplanned trip to Cagayan de Oro.  He will be attending a Civil Engineer's Conference in Cagayan de Oro City and he took the chance to take me to Cagayan de Oro.

We traveled from Bislig via Agusan and passing through Butuan City using Jun's Nissan Frontier.  The ride was scenic and very refreshing.  Camiguin Island can be seen from the road we took.

We arrived in Cagayan de Oro at around 8 in the evening and we encountered a small problem of finding ourselves accommodations for the night.  Most hotels are occupied by conference attendees and most are reserved ahead of time.  We finally settled in Grand City Hotel at around 11 p.m.

Jun had to leave me the following morning to attend the conference.  He knows I'll find a way to get myself busy.  I called up several friends in Manila and found out that Pam Banaban's Family lives in Cagayan de Oro.  I contacted her sister, Eya and she agreed to tour me around Cagayan de Oro City.  We met at the hotel's lobby and she showed me around the most popular malls of Cagayan de Oro City.  We stopped for lunch at Dear Manok, one of the well known restaurants there.  We proceeded to Malasag Eco-tourism village and spent several hours in that beautiful park.  We took a very wild ride on a motorcycle down the steep winding exit path of Malasag Village.  Eya introduced me to her cousins before we went on an afternoon stroll in Opol Beach.

We finally ate dinner at a seafood restaurant near Opol beach.  I went to Banaban's residence and was able to meet Pam & Eya's Mom and brother and several of their dogs.  I left theri house at around 10 p.m. and took a very scary jeep ride back to my hotel.

I stayed for another day in Cagayan de Oro City this time with Jun accompanying me in other places.  I went to Cagayan de Oro as a stranger and found myself a good friend in the City of Golden Friendship.
