Bohol |

Bohol is just 1 1/2 hours away (via fast craft) from Cebu. A compact island with so much to offer. Chocolate Hills perhaps is the most famous attraction in Bohol. Numbering to more than a thousand, the hills, some 100 meters high were believed to be created by years of rare geological process of erosion. But the Boholanos would rather accept the legend that the hills were formed by the teardrops of an unhappy giant. On the way to Chocolate Hills we passed by Corella to see the world's smallest primate, the Tarsier. It Inhabits the forest of Corella, Loboc and Anda. White sand beach, crystal clear blue waters and lots of marine life. It is hard not to fall in-love with this Island. We stayed at Tierra Azul resort, a very cozy and peaceful resort owned by a classmate of Nini Hormigos. We enjoyed our three day stay because of the serenity of the place and warmth of the Boholanos. We rented a boat and went snorkeling at Balicasag Island. It lived-up to its reputation as a premiere dive spot. The whole group enjoyed the snorkeling trip. Hinagdanan Cave is another natural wonder offered by Bohol. It is a cave with a pool of crystal clear water lit by two natural skylights. I wasn't able to resist the excitement of plunging into its deep and very cold underground pool. Accepting the invitation of the boatmen, we went on an early morning boat ride that gave us a close encounter with more than 50 dolphins near Pamilacan Island. Friendly, playful, graceful creatures of the ocean, the dolphins can make your blood rush the way a new toy makes a kid excited. Merkle positioned himself at the boat's front to capture the images of swimming dolphins. They were jumping up the water's surface at a remarkable speed. They were emerging from underneath the boat by groups and batches and alternately surf the wake created by our boat. This was the first time I have seen dolphins up-close. After this trip I decided to join World Wildlife Fund as a volunteer in helping protect this wonderful creature and other endangered species of the Philippines. |
