History
The international Federation which controls roller skating
"Federation Internationale De Roller Skating" (FIRS) was founded in
April 1924. The founding nations were Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany and France and
at that time it was called
"Federation InterNationale De Patinage a Roulettes" (FIPR).
In 1936 at a meeting of FIPR in Stuttgart three technical committees were established and
these technical committees set the
rules of competition in Speed Skating, Rink Hockey and Artistic Skating and Dancing (three
branches)
The history of the Internationale Federation that the first contact had been made with
Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the
United Stated of America when the development of roller skating was interrupted by the
Second World War.
The Roller Skating Rink Operators Association of Australia was formed in 1958. The
Australian Federation of Amateur Roller
Skaters was born in 1965 when a motion changing the constitution of the Roller Skating
rink Operators Association of
Australia was accepted at an Annual Meeting held in Brisbane.
AFARS became a member of FIRS in 1967. In July 1989 AFARS changed its name to the
Australian Federation of Amateur
Roller Sports. In 1992 the Federation again changed its name to "Roller Sports
Australia"
Roller Sports Australia Inc. now has four (4) branches whose technical committees set the
rules of competition for Speed
Skating, Rink Hockey, Artistic and In-Line Hockey.

3.Roller Hockey
4.Roller In-Line Hockey
