Demon Boy

Buffy closed the door behind her and collapsed onto her bed.  A full day of fighting  minions and rescuing Dawn had left her exausted.  Slaying had been a lot tougher without Spike along, fighting at her side.
She frowned, recalling it had been exactly 237 days now since Spike had left Sunnydale.  She'd forgiven him exactly 234 days ago.  He'd attacked her, yes.  But how many times had she attacked him?  It was what they did.  Their relationship... or well, whatever it had been...had been one of destruction.  They destroyed each other.  They were at each others throats half the time, and in each others beds the other half.  It wasn't right, or healthy.  She knew that, but she missed him all the same.
He had got a soul on his journey, or so she'd heard.  He had written Clem a letter, and Buffy had managed to threaten the details out of the nervous demon.  Spike...and a soul.  She wondered for the millionth time what he would be like.  She wondered what he was doing, what was taking so long.  And despite her best efforts to avoid the question, she wondered if maybe he wasn't coming back.
Ridiculous. She scolded herself.  Of course he's coming back.  He loves me.  He won't leave me.  He's coming back...
Flipping the radio on she closed her eyes and fell asleep to the sounds of Avril Lavigne's Skater Boy....

... In her dream she was at a concert, Avril Lavigne jumping around onstage.  Fans everywhere were screaming.  Someone in front of her had a water pistol and was squirting the crowd, who cheered and begged for more.  Suddenly Avril Lavigne's features changed, and instead it was Halfrek up on the stage.  The crowd parted, leaving Hallie a clear view of Buffy standing alone in the center of the room.  Staring straight at Buffy, she smiled triumphantly and began to sing.
"He was a vamp
She was a girl
Can I make it anymore obvious
He was a punk
She liked to slay
what more can I say
He wanted her
She'd never tell
Secretly she wanted him as well
All of her friends
Would be agast
They couldn't deal with his bloody past

He was a demon boy
She said keep on dreamin' boy
He wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

5 years from now
She sits at home
Sharpening stakes, and she's all alone
She turns on TV
And guess what she sees
Demon boy reading some poetry
She calls up her friends
They already knew
They've bought tickets to his interview
She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down

He was a demon boy
She said keep on dreamin' boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he reads poetry
On Regis and Kathy Lee
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

He was a demon boy
She said keep on dreamin' boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a superstar
He's rich and popular
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

Sorry girl but you missed out
Well tough luck that boy's mine now
We are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
It's too bad you could not see
See the man that vamp could be
There is more than meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

He's just a vamp
And I'm just a girl
Can I make it anymore obvious
We are in love
Haven't you heard
How we rock each other's world

He was a demon boy
I said oh dreamy boy
I'll be backstage after the show
We will go to your crypt
You'll read the poem you've writ
About a girl you used to know

He was a demon boy
I said oh dreamy boy
I'll be backstage after the show
We will go to your crypt
You'll read the poem you've writ
About a girl you used to know"
Buffy woke up with a start, the image of Halfreck's knowing smirk engraved on her mind.  Spike and Halfreck? Hah! What could he possibly see in her? No way was that going to happen.  No way.  If Spike wouldn't come home, well, Buffy would go look for him. She would bring him back home, back where he belonged.  Back with her.
