Dr. Rolf Gordhamer is a  licensed psychologist in Lubbock, Texas.  He is skilled in assisting people in discovering their strengths and abilities.  He works with others so that they might experience and enjoy a more meaningful life. 

Dr. Gordhamer earned both a Bachelors in Psychology and a Master in Psychological Foundations from Michigan State University.  He earned his Doctorate in Counseling from Kent State University.  He has been a licensed psychologist since 1977.  From 1973 to 2003 he was the Director of the Student Counseling Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.  The Student Counseling Center was a mental health unit available to over 28,000 students.  He has been in private practice since 2003.

Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

In 1988 Dr. Gordhamer began providing pre-surgery psychological assessments for individuals looking toward weight loss surgery.  As of May, 2008, Dr. Gordhamer has provided over 2,000 psychological assessments related to weight loss.

Bariatric Surgeon's Office:

1. The physician's office manager can contact Dr. Gordhamer via email at [email protected] or via phone using any of the following numbers: 

2.  Office managers will fax (806-792-0340) patient information to Dr. Gordhamer, i.e., name, address, telephone, insurance information, etc.,

3.  Dr. Gordhamer will then contact the patient and read them three brief inventories.  Once the inventories are completed and returned to Dr. Gordhamer a clinical interview will be arranged via video computer or telephone.

4.  Dr. Gordhamer will then produce a psychological evaluation and fax the evaluation to the physician's office.  This can all be completed in 2-4 days, given the patient's efficient cooperation.

5. Once the office manager informs Dr. Gordhamer that the bariatric surgery has been completed Dr. Gordhamer will offer a pro-bono (free) contact with the patient to assess the patient's psychological adjustment to the surgical procedure.

6.  An individual patient can take advantage of this psychological assessment by simply contacting Dr. Gordhamer at on of the telephone numbers listed above or via email.

7.  Patients may not have connected with a surgeon yet, or may simply choose to obtain psychological assessment on their own.
