Michael Monroe was born May 16th, 1954, in a time when Communism and
Capitalism were beginning a clash that would last the better part of
three decades. His father was a SFC in the 82nd Airborne
Infantry, U.S. Army, but was killed during the Korean War... a fact
that was never lost on young Michael growing up. Because of
this, he grew up with a strong desire to join the military, and to do
something good for his country; to live up to the image he held of his
father... a hero, who died defending Truth, Justice, and you know the
rest. When his ASVAB scores turned out to be incredibly high,
especially in the areas of Linguistics and Cryptography, Michael was
given two options... as this was during the Vietnam Conflict.
One, sign up, and be guaranteed Officer Candidate School immediately
after Basic Training, or, two, be drafted, and be made an Enlisted
man, with little chance of becoming an officer. With these kinds
of choices, what else could he do? 2LT Monroe was Commissioned
on December 14, 1972... less than one month before the official end of
the Vietnam Conflict.
Having missed out on this, Michael found himself swept
up in an entirely different world... the world of the Cold War.
He quickly became an expert at the Russian Language, both reading and
writing, and after a few years, found himself able to master all but
the most difficult of Russian Military Cryptography techniques (AKA
his Russian Language points, Covert Cultures Specialty, and Covert
Cultures Specialty). During the early 80s, he also learned
Arabic, as this area was quickly becoming an Intelligence hot-spot.
His achievements allowed him to earn his way through the ranks
quickly, finally making full-bird Colonial by the age of 45.
However, they also allowed him something else; the knowledge of some
of the "behind the scenes" events going on throughout the world (AKA
his Conspiracy Theories points).
Recently, Michael was promoted to the Commanding
Officer of the 704 Military Intelligence Brigade stationed at Ft.
Detrick, MD.
Note: Creature of Habit refers to his incessant need to go through a
good thirty minute PT regiment every morning.
