Origins:
Washu was born the only child of a Hide-Tanner and his wife, in the
sleepy little Village of Iiga. When the midwife told her father,
two years after her birth, that his wife would never conceive again,
he grew very bitter, and began to take it out on his wife and
daughter... though he did train Washu to take over his career, he did
this half-heartedly, not believing she could ever do this, or that she
would ever WANT to get into such an unclean profession. However,
oddly enough, this attitude was enough to make her want to go into
this profession even more, if only to prove that she was worth
something. As the years passed, her attitude became much more
sullen, and bitter, almost to the point of being depressive. She
developed a very beautiful, and natural singing voice, one which could
sway the hearts of anyone who heard it... but, mostly, she learned how
to just blend in, to observe the world around her. But it was
not until her parents died of a virus (while she had been shipped off
to a relative to make sure she didn't get it) that she truly became
morose... taking over the family business, but really not finding any
love in it.
Present:
It has been three years since the death of her family. Washu
is now known as the Village Hide-Tanner... and, as well, the woman
most likely to become a spinster. She keeps her hair back, and
does not wash up often, so her appearance actually seems much less
than it is (Appearance: 2). Luckily... due to the fact that when
you hit rock bottom, you have but one place to go... she is starting
to become less sullen and bitter, and, on occasion, smiles now.
In a way, she is learning how to truly live for the first time.Desires:
All she really desires is for an end to this lonely existence.
However, her own bitter resentment of the world around her, and her
depressed state, keep her from ever truly accomplishing much.
Fates:
Perhaps the fates will be kind to her... or perhaps cruel.
Most likely, it all depends upon how SHE does things.
