Origins:In the days before the fall of the
House of Toyotomi, and the taking of power by the Tokugawa Shogunates,
there were many more noble houses than there are now. One of these
houses, Clan Kawabata, was a thriving House, with many great Samurai…
including Yasukawa Ryoichi, Weaponsmaster of the house, and one of the
greatest warriors on the entire island. And, aside from his great
skill, he was blessed by a loving wife, three beautiful daughters, and
a kind and generous Lord and Lady. And, as he entered into his 40th
year of life, Ryoichi felt that he finally had gotten everything he
could possibly ask for.
But that was before the Shoguns came. Before he
was forced to fight in a war, against men he had called brothers, to
protect his Lord and Lady, his family, his very way of life, from
those who would dare to change it. He fought nobly, and to the very
end… but, in the end, it was all for naught. He was killed
mercilessly, and then, after he died, his Lord, Lady, wife (Tomoe), and all
three daughters were all killed in the same fashion (Aki, Akane, Aoi).
Normally, this would be the end of our tale.
However, for Ryoichi, it was far from over. His death was so violent…
and the deaths of his loved ones… that the spirit of Ryoichi could not
enter the Spirit Land. He had far too much angst, far too much
hatred… and there were only two possible choices for someone like
this. One, he could go into a state of purgatory for one thousand
years, while his negativity was burned away by the eternal fires.
Two, he could rejoin the land of the living as a Kuei… a spirit with a
solid body, and filled with only his wishes of vengeance and
destruction… and seek revenge upon those who had destroyed his life.
He chose the latter.
Present:
And now, he has returned to the living world, his
memories fragmented and distorted… all he can remember is that he must
kill and destroy the Shoguns, and all of the Houses that supported
them… but why, and how, he did not remember. Armed with only the
instinctive memories of his fighting abilities… yes, those did remain…
and a special sword, granted to him by the Spirits themselves, Ryoichi
now walks the Earth once more.
And now… one last detail… the sword. It is
called the Wraithblade. Attached to his arm, this energy blade can be
recoiled or extended at will. Though it is made of energy, it really
has only three notable special powers. One, it glows, and can be
extended and retracted. Two, it can harm spirits, and other
supernaturals. And three, it can absorb energy from supernatural
creatures upon contact, allowing him to regenerate… but there is a
flaw to this. The more he absorbs, the more dangerous his blade
becomes… to himself. If he absorbs too much, in general, or too much
at one time, the blade begins to absorb his own life energy.
Though he doesn't know it, but the sword is a soul completely
independent. It was put into him, buy the Spirits themselves, to keep
him in check.
Desires:
He has only one desire in this world. Revenge.
Fates:
This is a creature whom the Fates have no control over. A
wild card, who could change the destinies of the entire world, or
destroy it if he is not careful.
