Washuu
Character: Washuu Hakubi

History:

It's probably no exaggeration to call Washuu Hakubi the greatest
scientific genius in the universe.  Well, that's what SHE would say,
anyway, but she'd be at least half right - she is a genius, and you
would be hard-pressed to find anyone who works on her level of genius,
even if a good deal of that genius is dissipated in frivolous things.
(Of course, she would be the last one to admit they were frivolous.)

Washuu's exact origins are hazy, but one thing is certain: she is
probably not of mortal origins.  Sometime in the distant past (several
millennia ago), Washuu chose to enter the mortal realm as a free-willing
participant, rather than simply remain an observer, and allowed her
memories of her godhood to be sealed away.  She spent several thousand
years developing herself into a formidable scientific genius, turning
herself into a broad-ranging polymath.  Again, it is not clear if these
skills were responsible for the development of a remarkable set of
innate powers or if those were hers to begin with -- and she is
tight-lipped about it either way.

Not too long ago (cosmically speaking), Washuu studied and later
accepted a teaching post at the Galactic Science Academy's graduate
division.  She was one of the star professors of the school and garnered
consistently high marks from students and fellow faculty alike.  Then
something happened which changed everything completely: she fell in love
with and married a fellow student, a man of noble standing in the
Juraian house structure.  There was never any question that they were
happy together, but class rigidities among Jurians are virtually
impossible to transcent.

Worse, Washuu became pregnant with his child.  Shortly after the baby
was born, it was taken from her by her in-laws, who annulled the
marriage.  Washuu was devastated by this, to say the least, and spent at
least a year in an emotional pit of despair.  Finally she came to a
conclusion: it would be better for her not to have to run the risk of
ever being so badly betrayed.  Better to live as a child than as an
adult if living as an adult meant giving everything and getting back
nothing.  To that end, she performed a variety of personal genetic
engineering that caused her to live from that day onward in the body of
a pre-teenaged girl -- her own body, of course, but re-engineered from
the cellular level up.  Thus freed of the constraints of libido, she
went on to engage in her idea of "pure science."

What "pure science" meant to her was probably not what other people had
in mind, but she was happy and fulfilled, and working on projects that
excited and interested her.  Among them were projects with another
former student named Kagato, an ambitious and highly ingenious man with
many brilliant ideas.  Among their collaborative efforts: the construct
Ryo-oh-ki.  And one of the sideline projects that Washuu developed
during this time was a genetically enhanced descendent of her own -- a
new "daughter" to replace the one she had lost.  That new daughter was
Ryoko.

Ambition and greed eventually destroyed the partnership.  Kagato and
Ryoko went off on their own spree of piracy and wanton destruction, to
resurface later... and Washuu was once again left to her own devices --
not the least of which was to find her missing daughter.....
