Shootingsports |
My biggest hobby is sportshooting... Next to beiing in the military, and as I'm a shooting instructor with the Royal Marechaussee, I shoot my pistol with the "Contact Oud Mariniers" shootingclub in Nijmegen and with the Netherlands Military Pistolteam. This is a sport where concentration, endurance and fitness can take you to the utmost extentions of your power. I can already hear you think:"shooting is a sport? No, soccer, now that's a sport!" But ask yourself this question: Does a soccer player realy go, for twice 45 minutes, fully concentrated after this leather ball? Alone? NO, he (or she) doesn't! During a shooting match, you realy have to perform every shot right from the beginning. First concentration at the match. What do I have to do today? What kind of a match? What's my limit? How much do I need to know about the range? Than, I realise that I have to find concentration from my head to my feet; am I in balance? How do I hold my gun? Concentrate on my breathing and heartbeat. Ask myself:"what's my target today?" Concentrate on my eyes, get in position. Is my gun okay? And so on, and so on.... And this repeats every shot I have to fire! Up from 60 tot 140 shots, depending on what discilpine I'm in. Easy if you train a lot, easier if you train more than a lot! There's only one goal: winning the match! (and of course holding still this gun thats getting heavier every time I lift it up...) National and international regulations make it even more difficult, but: Shooting is an olympic sport; it's a military sport for sure, and it's a lot of fun! |
