The Gap

A major tourist attraction and the most extensive climbing area around Albany. Elegant flakes and strenuous cracks abound. The rock is clean and compact, and the easy access only adds to the appeal. All of the routes are quite short (single pitches), and if the sea is calm, a pleasant seaside picnic atmosphere prevails. If the sea is storming on the other hand, the routes can take on a whole new dimension!

The following are some of the finest the Gap has to offer: In the mid-grades, check out Surf’s Up (15), When The Horrie Cometh (17) - one of the more popular routes, located in the Gap proper, and always pulls a big crowd. I am The Walrus (18), Thinker Skinker (18), Over Indulgence (19), Laughing Matter (19) no joke - a full span, hands and feet bridging move and something you will never forget!. Dolphin (20), Noosa (21) and the brilliant rising flake line of Listen To The Wind Blow (22). The best of the harder routes include the wafer thin flake of Softly, Softly (23), the powerful Ivory Tower (23), Atolls Away (23), the improbable looking Rainbow Warrior (23), Orca (24), Don’t Petal Me (24), the almighty Fear No Evil (24) and Just An Aleutian (25).
