Actually we celebrate diwali the previous day night. Evening after taking bath, we decorate the house with lamps, then wear new dress and do pooja to all idols and photos of GOD we have in house. Then we fire some crackers to create the festival atmosphere. Dinner will be great with variety of food items. So we all will help to prepare the same, so that we could concentrate on other things. The menu will be like rice, sambar, vada, kheer, papad, bhajis, diwali sweets etc. etc. Once the preparation is over we fire crackers of various types for about an hour. Every diwali we used to invite somebody as guest from our relatives or friends circle. Before taking the dinner we light up colour candles and switch off all the lights. Then will watch some diwali special programmes on TV. Then we will go for final purchases for items like towels, blankets etc, which will be available cheaper since that will be the final day sale for the festival.
Morning we wakes up around 5AM and prepare for hot water to take oil bath. Elder in the house will apply oil on head as a tradition. Then after bath, we all will be given the new dress by the elder. After wearing the new dress we will get the blessings of our parents and elders, neighbors etc. and will go to temple. Then the whole day is for we yougsters and we will be busy in finishing the crackers bought. Since from my childhood we follow this and i remember those good hold days ever fresh in my mind.
