  Irish Music & Dancing

In July 2004, I joined a group of singers, musicians and dancers (both step and set ;o) from Ennis as we travelled to Romania for the
10th European Youth and Cultural Week.

Most of the groups there had German links, although ourselves and the group from Sardinia seemed to be welcomed with open arms all the same!

There is some information about Irish step dancing on the Irish Dance page. I'll eventually get round to explaining Set dancing!

On the left we have the musicians (from left) Paddy Nolan, Austin Flourish, Sharon Smith, Paul Madden, JD Nolan and Dave Culligan. We lost David O'Brien from the edge of the photo!
The dancers are (from left) Tina Finn, Trina Galvin, Tara Kleebaur, Róisín Commane (Me!) and Noelle Finn. Of course, I'm Miss Bossy turning round in the black & green dress.
On the right is another dignified photo of the Irish dancers looking prim and proper. I'm the one on my tip-toes trying not to look too small ;o)

The musicians played in the main square of Timisoara during a market type thing ;o) Paul eventually found David O'Brien playing drinking games with some German group and decided he should join in too... It was decided the following morning that this may not have been the best plan in the world...

We managed to do a little sightseeing but the weather didn't really do us any favours. Here's me with my auntie Theresa and our rain-coats in front of the Cathedral in Timisoara. It faces onto a beautiful square which hosted an international market for all the groups at the end of the week.

There were many social activities arranged during the festival and, as we had to maintain the Irish reputation for being friendly and socialising, we were obliged to part-take...
Although, we may have part-taken a little too much at times...

From this photo of "The Angels", you could honestly believe butter wouldn't melt... What Rubbish! As Tina found to her dismay later that night!!
Tina having a involuntary shower thanks to Tara!
And Tara looking jubilent that her cunning plan worked!

"The Two Wise Men" (Vinny Hennessy and Tommy Cooney) discussing the role of German Beer in the Irish economy. Everyone was in great form as the drink flowed and the music blared... We didn't really think about the morning...
Poor Dave Culligan was on crutches for the tour. That's what sport does to your knees! (Well that's my excuse for not doing much of it ;o) Because of the crutches and the fact that there were two Davids on the tour, Culligan was christened Hoppy. It didn't stop him catching the eye of an absolute stunner though!?

And finally, how does Paddy Nolan look like a model on his way back from the south of France when it pissed rain all week!?!
