For a girl that was happy to study German at school, I was really impressed with Paris. October was my first visit and I really hope it wasn't my last! I don't speak any French but I'm thinking that I need to start developing basic language skills in a few key languages so I might start a beginner course in the future.

I began to develop an interest in French cinema (or just French-type films) while I was in London. I'm blaming Camille, my partner in crime in the lab in Imperial, who's half French. French films have a sense of style about them that I really like.

My aunt Marian and I travelled to Paris on the Eurostar for a day so we were limited on what we could see and do. The Eurostar is a great way to travel - I highly recommend it!!

As this was my first trip we decided to take an open top tour bus around the city. We passed a lot of places that I would like to see again so I'm definitely going back! Arriving into the city centre is so much easier than flying into somewhere miles from the city...

The Louvre looked really impressive, as did the queues outside! The queues for the Dome of Notre Dame were also long but I was really disappointed with the size of Notre Dame. I suppose I had always thought it would be really massive. But after being inside St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Duomo in Milano, it didn't seem that big somehow. Maybe it was just me... We only stopped at the Louvre for a few mins. The pyramid does look a little out of place but at the same time, it works! This I definitely want to go back to.

The Louvre looking busy History of Pain. I love it!

As I am completely illiterate in French, the name of this cafe really amused me. Do you know any other cafe called the History of Pain?? I know it probably has something to do with bread but it's funny all the same!

The one thing that was really impressive was the Eiffel Tower. I had no concept of just how massive it really was!

This first pic over doesn't really give you the 'massive' impression I got but I thought the photo on the right showed the scale much better!

This is my aunt Marian and I posing under The Eiffel Tower. It was way too busy to try and go up the Tower on our day trip. I would really like to go back though! It is just so impressive!
