In November 2005 I ventured away from Leeds for the Day to go to the Lake District with the Leeds University Hiking Society. I had attempted to make the walk the week before but 7.30 am after a night out was not possible. This time however I was prepared, or so I thought!!

After almost collapsing from exhaustion I finally reached the top of Old Man and nearly got blown off with the sheer strength of the gale blowing. I'm only small you know!

Old Man is a mountain of over 800m and all of it seemed straight up! The exhaustion was worth the views but I think it nearly took me till Christmas to recover!! I felt sorry for the rest of the group who I was slowing down but I regained my energy levels by the time we were going down again and I managed to beat everyone to the pub :o)

Me at the top of Old Man A view of the estuary south of Old Man Kate & I celebrating my survival!
I loved the views here I was WELL back from the front on the hike up! It was really cold up on the ridge. I was glad of my new, warm coat!
Notice anything in the dip between the mountains? It's actually the Sellafield Nuclear Processing factory blighting the beautiful view :o( We walked through grass & snow
- all in one day
We did actually start walking from the bottom of the mountain Even the sun liked this view of the estuary I'm usually not great with heights but I had to lean over the edge of the ridge to get a photo of this tarn
