| Development of Food Presentation Modes Developments took place in the disciplines of food preparation and presentation in their own isolated examples all over the world in the history of mankind. They directly are attributed to results of gathering of wealth and power under feudalistic, imperial or capitalistic economic situations. The History The Banana Leaf, Palm Leaf or the Lotus Leaf over the clay pot represented the earliest and most simple decoration of food presentation. The royal chefs tried to make this attractive to the majestic consumer by folding it and cutting it in different ways to suit the mood of the meal.In ancient Thailand,is is said that food never entered the dining rooms of the royal court without fruit or vegetable carvings. In the Middle Eastern countries, the traditionally shared food platter becomes a piece of art with the garnish of respective shapes and colors of vegetables. In India and Sri Lanka the Maharajas and Kings had several courses per meal presented on Banana leaves on clay pots, which is almost similar to the origin of Japanese Mokimono. The official recognition of Mokimono is recorded along with the establishment of the present capital, Tokyo, called Edo in the 16th century. |
