Below: Highway 1 from San Simeon to the Monterey Peninsula. Oh my! What a road. This road forms part of the ultimate coastal road in California. It continues north of San Francisco. This is what dreams are made of!
Below: Further north, near the upper northern part of California is the Lost Coast. It earned its name due to the rugged Kings Mountain Range that prevented the exploration of this coastal area until the 1800's . This is Mattole Road.
The mountains surrounding the coast has some spectacular roads as well. Below is Santa Rosa Creek Road. This old stage coach road starts at the coastline, drops down into a small valley and follows the Santa Rosa Creek, then climbs up into the vineyards of San Luis Obispo County.
