It was obvious after waiting a while that Carl had taken the road downtown and we needed to find him.  So, Jim left Carl a voicemail on his cell phone to meet us somewhere in the middle of the city.  Then, Jim lead us into the maze of streets that was the streets of San Francisco.  At one point, we passed by a long row of Victorian era houses all lined up.  It was very pretty.  Another point we descended down a spiral-like road and we got a great view of downtown and its surroundings.  Nice.  Unfortunately, our little impromptu tour of the city ate up a lot of time and the weather took advantage of our situation by moving further south and bringing rain with it.   We eventually found Carl waiting in a gas station.

Left:  We found Carl!

After going through and around the city of San Francisco, we eventually hooked up with our lost puppy.  Jim attempts to shelter himself from the slow but peltering rain.  From left to right:  Jeff, Ken, & Phil.  Bending over next to the Sprint is Carl.
Right:  The streets of San Francisco.
It doesn't look busy, but it some places it was.  So typical of the environment one would find riding in and around the city.  It's basically a sort of grid with lights in every intersection, with constant elevation changes!  Fun to ride it with the right motorcycle.
Afterward, we left the city and headed to San Jose to go have a real brunch and go shopping at a motorcycle accessory and apparel warehouse.  The warehouse parking lot was full of bikes despite the dismal weather, which quickly deteriorated into light rain.  We ate our brunch at some roadside caf.  Cute waitress.  I had lots of coffee and buttermilk pancakes and syrup.   Hmmmmm....makes me hungry just thinking about it!  After breakfast, we went shopping for motorcycle stuff and checked out the various bikes parked by the store.  Saw a real clean FZ1 that looked like it just came off the showroom.  It had a beautiful titanium exhaust system.  Its owner told me it was a 2002, which was a shock due to how clean even the engine was!  He also admitted to me that he had a pressure washer.  Ahah!

After shopping, we made a feeble attempt at riding to the hills in search of twistiesANY twisties!  Alas, the rain started to come down.  A group decision was reached: forget about the ride, and just go chill at Phils place.  There was no fun riding twisties in that kind of weather.  Thus, we turned around and rode back to Phils.

Chillin at  Phils
We ended up spending the rest of our day swapping lies, playing video games, watching Triumph the Insult Dog, and waiting for the BBQ to finish.  The rain hardly let up so there was not much we could do.  More local Sport-Touring.net members showed up.  Andrew, Sean, Robert from Southern California, Chris and his girlfriend Liz, Dr. Gil from Eureka, California, and a few other people whos names escape me now.  Apologies to my bad memory.

The steak, corn, mashed potatoes, hamburgers, and of course, Jims infamous garlic bread, along with endless supplies of soda, beer, and other alcoholic beverages were consumed with alacrity.  More lies were swapped around.  Everyone teased me about my VFR being so clean even after 600+ miles and rain.  Lemme give you guys a hint: its called Plexus.  And it allows rain water to wash right down the fairings like water on a ducks back.  Our little party didnt end until the wee hours of the evening, ending with a cacophonie of motorcycle exhaust as some members departed.  Im quite sure that Phil did NOT endear himself well with his neighbors that night!
