Central Coast & Bay Area Tour:  October 2004             Day 1 Continued....
Back to Previous Page
Just then, Ken and Carl played it smart and went by me at full steam, not wanting to be any part of it.  Well, I figured Id stay and wait so that Jackie didnt get lost getting out of town after she got her 2nd citation.  WRONG!  STUPID MORON!  After the CHP officer spoke with Jackie, the sonofabitch-bastard-fuckturd walked the 50 feet over to me and proceeded to give me a ticket for unsafe lane changing!  I was like:  FUCK!  SHIT!  ASSHOLE!  The ociffer also flapped his trap about us going 80 mph but he wasnt going to cite us for that.  Thank you for the favor moron.  I should have brought some donuts to give him.  Now I really hate the CHP.  However, I hated myself even more for being such an idiot and stopping when the CHP was more than happy to just give one ticket to poor old Jackie!  I could have just kept going but nooo.....I had to be nice.  Im still beating myself up for that stupidity.

After the ticket incident, Jackie and I rode on and found Ken and Carl on an exit ramp some miles down the road.  I signaled for them to join us back on the freeway.  We then headed east on Highway 156, which led back to the 101 Freeway.

On To Sunnyvale
Theres something to be said about a city with a name of SUNNYVALE.  It sounds so upbeat, happy, pleasant.  And after the CHP put a damper that was wetter than Seattle in the middle of winter on our plans, I was looking forward to making it to Sunnyvale and just sulking.  I was also getting a little tired as it had been a very long day and lots of miles, with lots of stressful lane splitting and damn speed-busting CHP-biotches hunting us down.

The final 150 miles to the Bay Area was dull and uneventful.  All I could think about since Monterey was how stupid I was for stopping for that CHP-asshole, who clearly wasnt even after me.  And although I couldnt see it, I could almost feel how badly Jackie was feeling during the last hours of that ride.  I really felt bad for her.

Of course, as we got to Sunnyvale, Friday evening rush hour was on full bore.  So once again, it was lane splitting until the last few miles before our exit into the streets of the city.  It was quite a relief to find Phils house and just cruise up to his driveway.  Our happy greetings masked my frustration at myself and the events at the hands of the CHP.  It really is time to get a proper radar detector!

Phils House and Sushi Dinner
Phil was a gracious host.  He offered us a room and bedding for the night.  We exchanged lies and gave him the raw deal about our ride up.  Phil laughed and we laughed with him.

We had dinner at a local Japanese restaurant, which was a favorite by Caroline, who is one of the esteemed members of Sport-Touring.net, as well as someone I admire for being such a dedicated long distance rider, hands on motorcycle mechanic, courageous explorer, and a downright nice person.  Unfortunately, her boyfriends grandfather had passed away and him and her could not attend the sushi dinner.

Other members of Sport-Touring.net from California also arrived for dinner.  Jim who was a local, and Jeff who rode all the way from Redding.  A good time was had by all at dinner.  A few got a taste of sushi for the first time.  I ordered Unagi roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, & some other--all cooked.  I dont eat raw sushi at all.  Ken & Phil however, were no Sushi virgins.  They got the real deal of raw fish wrapped in rice.  Eeeuuw!  Why cant they just put that stuff under a fire for a few minutes, thats all!  Phil got a little tipsy from the Asahi beer and made a couple of lude phone calls to the front desk of the restaurant using his cell phone.  Despite our setbacks, the sushi was very good and so was the company.  It was a great cap to the end of a long, fun day.

Left:  Phil was kind enough to allow us to park our bikes in his garage.

Here, Ken shows off his sleeping quarters!  Not really.

It was a good thing that we got to keep our bikes indoors too.  Because, it rained pretty much both nights we were in Sunnyvale.
