Central Coast & Bay Area Tour:  October 2004             Day 1 Continued....

Right:  Resting behind a shady spot in a San Luis Obispo gas station.  Carl does his best impersonation of James Bond.
All of us also took the time to call loved ones and let them know we're okay.

Below:  My VFR loaded up for touring.  I believe in packing lightly so on all my trips, a small tank bag and a medium size tailbag was all I used.  I try to avoid saddlebags as much as possible to allow for lane splitting.
Pacific Coast Highway
After fueling up in San Luis Obispo, all of us were friends again and decided to wait until we got to Cambria for lunch.  We then headed down Highway One, or what we Southern California people called PCH.  We arrived at the coastal town of Cambria and Jackie led us for a touristy ride down Moonstone beach.  Then, we entered the main drag of Cambria and had lunch at some self serve diner.  I had a hamburger with avocado & bacon with deep fried Onion rings.  Hmmm...I could feel my arteries getting clogged!  Ken and Carl got Salmon sandwiches.  What?  Yeah.  Salmon in between two pieces of french bread.  Yuck!  Jackie got her chicken salad.  While we ate, everyone in the restaurant were staring at us like we were from another planet.  It surprised me as Cambria sees its share of motorcyclists.  I wondered what was up?

After lunch, we headed north on PCH.  Everyone agreed to tone down the speeds and be touristy.  It was a tough choice and tougher still to keep our speeds down on this beautiful stretch of road!  Thats because it was smooth, twisty, with occasional long stretches of straights that screamed for speed on our motorcycles.

Right:  A scenic turnoff near San Simeon.  A few miles past San Simeon along Pacific Coast Highway, there is an old lighthouse, as well as some rocks called: "Piedras Blancas".  In English it means white rocks.  That's because the tops of each rock is white.
