Our mountains in California are about as varied as anywhere in the world.  We may not have the tallest peaks nor the most majestic, but we have a lot of them.  Best of all, they are all criss-crossed with mountain roads that are just a sheer joy to ride on a motorcycle.  Some of our mountain roads are more notorious than others.  The following are some of the more "famous" mountain roads frequently enjoyed by SoCal's best riders.

Below:  The road to Palomar Mountain.  At the top of the mountain is the Palomar Observatory, long since retired due to excessive ambient lighting from nearby San Diego.  However, the mountain has a well maintained road system that is God's gift to motorcyclists.  Here, a group of sportbikers are enjoying the road.
Below:  The surrounding areas throughout north eastern San Diego County is chock full of wonderfully twisty and scenic roads for motorcyclists of all kinds to enjoy.  Here, a biker leans his bike on a tight corner along Mesa Grande Road.  This area is hidden away from the main road so most motorists, and cops, are not present on any given day.  The road however, can be either your best friend or your worst nightmare.  One section is filled with switchbacks under a canopy of trees that form dark shadows.  Occassionally, there are cows that sit on the road.  One time I was lucky to escape the wrath of a Bull sitting by the roadside along a 15 mph corner!  The other section is wide open and fast with beautiful, wide open views.  It is a great diversion from the even more wide open sections of Hwy 76 and Hwy 79 that span this area.

The other side of Palomar Mountain sits Lake Henshaw.  It is beautifully distracting as one rides down the mountain!
