| Grand Canyon Trip: May 2002 Continued |
| After checking in and taking a long deserved shower at the hotel in Williams, all that was left for me to do was wait for the rest of the gang to arrive. I did cruise around downtown Williams and even had time to enjoy a Dairy Queen Ice cream. That days mileage was no less than 490 miles. Slightly less than what I anticipated but very close. I went from one temperature extreme to the next. The Bandit performed admirably without a single hiccup. Its engine remained smooth and strong. My arms and legs were just a little tired but they were NOT sore. My butt however would have no more of it! |
Left: Main Street in the small town of Williams, Arizona. Believe it or not this town actually has McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and a few other fast food restaurants usually only found in bigger cities. The town also had a variety of other small hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, and family owned restaurants catering to the Grand Canyon visitors that frequent this small town. Williams was a very friendly town indeed. |
| The Remains Of The Day The guys arrived at Williams at 6PM. Turns out they got shit-faced, and gambled at Laughlin the night before and didnt leave there till 1PM. They took Route 66 and stopped numerous times to check things out. It took them 5 hours to cover less than 200 miles. Shamefull. Just shamefull. Whats up with that Marty? Thats what you get for bringing Chris along! We did an impromptu fishing trip at the nearby Kaibab Lake in the Kaibab National Forest. We caught nothing of course but Mat and Marty did experience an Elk sighting. Afterwards we hit downtown Williams and had a hearty steak dinner at Rods Steak House. By 10 PM, the whole town of Williams all went home to bed except for a few teens hanging out at street corners. We gave them a show by buzzing around in our big bore, piped and jetted in-line fours. We tried to do wheelies but the high altitude put a deficit on our engines torque so we couldnt.ahem.get it up. At least thats the excuse were sticking to. After an hour of lounging in the hotels Jacuzzi drinking beer, we hit the sac for a well needed rest in preparation for Day 2! |
| Above: From L to R - Chris, Marty, and Matt posing at Kiabab Lake campgrounds getting ready to go fishing. Of course we caught nothing but it sure was a pretty sunset! |
Left: A pointless picture of my hotel room in Williams. Yeah! Yeah! It was a mess but who cares! I was only there for ONE night. |
