How Far Are We?

That was a question that we would be asking ourselves throughout this leg of the trip.  We had just escaped the little dot on the map and the trucker's from hell in Gorman and were now cruising along a road called Cerro Norriestre north east of Frazier Park, smack dab in the middle of the Los Padres National Forest. It was very, very cold.  I had on my jacket liner, a long sleeved shirt, a T-shirt, my Joe Rocket Ballistic pants, Gore-Tex boots, my winter gloves, and a cotton bandana wrapped around my neck, and I was feeling very chilled.  I kept on wonder to myself, how far was I from before I get down off this very cold mountain?  Asphalt_Carver, a relative sport-touring noob, had only "all season" gloves.  Experienced riders know, there is no such thing as "all Season" gloves.  It's either winter or everything else!  AS also didn't have the natural layers of body warming fat that I had.  Poor guy was deprived and freezing.  After about 20 miles of twisties, he had to stop to get the feelings back to his fingers!

Below:  The Buell Brigade somewhere along Cerro Norriestre Rd around 8AM.  It was freezing!  The sun hadn't had a chance to warm things up and we had to stop to take a break from the cold wind.

Right:  Asphalt_Carver attempts to remove his numb hands from his all season gloves.

Cerro Norriestre Rd. was devoid of any vehicles except ours.  It was also very dirty in a few places.  At one point there was the Mother of All Tumbleweeds laying in the middle of a turn.  But mostly, it was as fine a motorcycling road as we remembered it.
