Stir Crazy

The story

Stir crazy charters the exploits of two crazy friends, an unemployed playwrite, Skip Donaghue (Gene Wilder) and a waitor ,Harry Munroe (Richard Pryor). After both getting fired from their New York jobs, Skip comes up with the idea to head east and seek new opportunities. When they arrive there, the only employment they receive is dressing up as woodpeckers in a bank, as an advertisement for the bank. Their luck (if you want to call it that) tourns sour however, when two bank robbers use their suits as disguises to rob that same bank, and Skip and Harry neck the blame, and being sent to prison for over a hundred years each!

Then, whilst in the tough prison, surrounded by murderers, Skip is discovered by the jail warden to be a natural rodeo king, with the aid of one of those mechanical bulls. The warden, places a huge bet, claiming that at the next state prson rodeo competition, his prsin would win. So Skip and his new-found friends hatch a plan, thinking that if Skip says he won't enter the rodeo, he can ask for whatever he wants of the warden, until he agrees to partake. However, the warden, aidied by hid#s ruthless prison guards, try to make lifew very togh for Skip and his chums with some of the cruelest, but most hilarious punishments imaginable!

As for the ending, you'll have to buy the video yourself..........

My thoughts:

This film is often forgotten when reviewing the works of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, and I simply cannot understand why, because in my opinion, it is definitely in the top 10 funniest movies of all time! The acting from both Wilder and Pryor is some of the most memorable ever commited to film! One of the best aspects is how all the characters work together, especialy Skip and Harry. Just see when they are going into the prison before their trial, one of my favourite parts from any film ever!!!
