| 1. As Christians, it is our conviction that the Bible is the inerrant and infallible Word of our God, the Supreme Creator and Sustainer of the universe. It is our supreme standard for conduct and decision-making. The Scriptures are totally trustworthy and true. The Bible is the sole authority for stating and practicing our Christian faith. It transcends the rules, policies or statements of any denomination that we may choose to associate and worship with as a family. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 19:7-8 (NKJV) - "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;" | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) - "Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) - "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 119:140 (NKJV) - "Your word is very pure; Therefore Your servant loves it." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Isaiah 34:16 (NKJV) - "Search from the book of the Lord and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV) - "The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Matthew 5:17-18 (NKJV) - [words of Jesus] "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law until all is fulfilled." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| John 17:17 (NKJV) - [words of Jesus] "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV) - "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NKJV) - "...knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2. In accordance with the teachings of Scripture, children are a gift from God. In giving us this gift, God has delegated the responsibility for raising and training our children to us, the parents. No basis for further delegation of this responsibility (beyond the parents) is found in Scripture. The training of children was never delegated to the state in the Bible except in cases of coercion by the state. Therefore, to ignore the teaching of the Bible on this matter would be disobedient to God. We believe it is a sin for us as parents to fail to obey this commandment of God. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Deuteronomy 17:19 (NKJV) - "And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and statutes," | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 127:3 (NKJV) - "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is His reward." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Matthew 22:21 (NKJV) - "...And he said to them, 'Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3. As revealed in Scripture, God has mandated conditions for the education of our children. As parents, we cannot be obedient to the commands of our Lord apart from the biblically-based and parental-modeled method of instruction. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| a) We believe that, in accordance with Ephesians 6:4, fathers have the ultimate responsibility for training and disciplining our children in the Lord. To send them to public schools, which teach religious neutrality and secular humanism, would be "provoking" our children to wrath and therefore disobedient to God's command. Further, we believe that Scripture clear instructs us to not be conformed to the world. Since the public education system teaches the "worldly" values system of secular humanism, we would be disobedient in placing our children in an educational setting that teaches confirmation of the mind to these "worldly" values. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Romans 12:2 (NKJV) - "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV) - "...fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| b) As parents, we are to teach the commands and truth found in God's Word in a diligent manner through a comprehensive program of instruction integrated into the daily lifestyle of both parents and children. Only in this manner can we be obedient to the commands of our Lord. Children in public schools are taught to think as non-Christians, normally for more than 30 hours per week. Subjecting our children to this training is in direct conflict with this command from God. We believe this to be a sin against the command of God. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NKJV) - "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart; you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Psalm 1:1-2 (NKJV) - "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits is the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV) - "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) - "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4. As Christian parents, we must obey the commands of our God. The only way we can be obedient to Scripture and God's call on our lives and the lives of our children is to provide a Christian lifestyle education for our children at home. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
