| The Swansea Bay Festival Rally was Roger's first forest event. Due to his inexperience he was seeded as the very last car on the road. This meant that when he got to run on the gravel forest roads approximately 132 cars had already sped along the them. By this point they were heavily rutted with exposed rocks and large amounts of slippery loose gravel. Roger teamed with codriver Laurie Walker for this event and Laurie's experience and advice was invaluable during the rally. In the service crew Peter Mustoe's technical skills were augmented by professional engineer Sam Park. In addition the team now has a photographer, Jo Stone, to record the days events and her photos can be seen on this page. The first stage was 17 miles in the forests to the East of Resolven. Being the last car to run gave Roger and Laurie a sobering view of all the cars that had crashed or broken down on the stage, a continous reminder as to the result of any small mistake. However the only mishap was a spin on a slippery hairpin left, hairpin right. The rest of the day passed without even a puncture and the team achieved a well earned 4th place in the Polos from field of eight. |
