We all set out for different reasons.
To Escape
To Return
To learn, excercise, and see

We all learned of the trail different ways.
From a friend
From a book
From a hike, a job, or a sign.

We all have learned from the trail. Lessons for the trail, lessons for life, and lessons about ourselves.

Our dreams have existed for weeks to years.
Our dreams are realized and actualized.

But our dreams are about the trail, the hike, the experience, the scenery, the views, and the people.

We rise with the sun, and go to sleep with the sun, sleeping under the stars when the sky is clear.

We rely on streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, puddles, and snow to give us water.

We thank the wind when we are hot, thank the trees when we want shade, and understand the meaning of a perfect sitting rock.

We notice subtle changes in plant life, give praise to the colors of the trail, and enjoy the silence.

We take breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner, nighttime snack, daytime snack, and elevensies…and the occassional midnight meal.

We arrive in towns tired, smelly, and hungry, only to shower, eat, resupply and do it all over again.

We take rides from strangers, experience “trail angels” and “trail magic.”

We are blessed with the sun on our face, the wind on our back, and angels in our packs.

We appreciate the challenges presented to us, and know that the trail is not a vacation, but a life on different wavelength.

We are architects, dispatchers, and cooks.

We are computer programers, graphic designers, and forest technicians.

We are tree climbers, delivery truck drivers, and salespersons.

We are dreamers, nature lovers, and conservationists.

We are walkers, hikers, and backpackers.

We are thru-hikers.
