Many people have asked me similar questions so i am going to send this out to everyone to answer some questions.
The device i use to write emails is called a pocketmail composer. It cost $200 for the device, a one year plan and handy carrying case.
With the device i can write emails and read emails anywhere. BUT i can only send the written emails and update my inbox when i have access to a phone. I hold the device up to a phone and it sends a fax signal to send out my emails and recieves a fax signal to update my inbox with emails i have recieved since my last transmission.
I am limited to a message size of 6000 characters. So if you reply to my messages, please do not include the text I emailed to you unless it is necessary for me to understand what you are referencing. Doing th is will also cut the time down that i have to hold the device to the phone.
I cannot receive attachments or photos. If you want to send me a long email, please break it into two emails.
I can email frequently because I only need a phone to do it. but further down the trail I will be in more remote areas so my emails will become less frequent.
If youhave any other questions, just send me an email.
Ciao
