| Perhaps
you have a story to tell about a professor at your California State
school who did not tell the truth about something or somehow acted
inappropriately. In our university system, few professors explore
issues in the spirit of true academic freedom and professionalism.
For example, many textbooks are chosen because they promote a certain
political agenda. Do the views of conservative or traditional
people get covered in your classes? Many professors make their
lectures (or speeches, as many could be labeled) very political and off
topic.
Send me any stories you have
where you or another person was dismissed because your outlook
contrasted with the professor's political beliefs. And yes, you
can write critical reviews of professors that do not mention political
fanaticism; write about other traits they have that are out-of-line with
professionalism. There are many professors who need to be
criticized. The

Many professors turn lecture classes into chatty
classes, either by putting people into groups or allowing many people to
present their thoughts (feelings) during the class period. Many
people come to a class to hear the Ph. D. and hope to be presented with
knowledge of a higher plane. Send your stories to the above email
if you have classes that were dumbed down in that manner.

Almost all professors at SFSU are in control of the
textbooks, articles, and movies that are part of their classes. I
can think of at least one professor who altered the course description
to fit her agenda. The abstract about the class in the catalog was
a bunch of garbled, oh-so-academic words about the class that is only
offered every few years, and then when I got there, it was laid out as
she wanted it to be.
Sometimes professors cancel class, and the times it
has happened for me, I know it was done because the professor thought
they could do it to work around their own schedule. One professor
cancelled class for at least a week with the reason being that we
students would have more time to work on our final papers. Send in
examples of how your classes were canceled or material was dropped, if
that is something that you care about.
Professors often have a high opinion of themselves,
and many times the result is that they place their desires over the
students' wishes. While the teachers at Cal. State have built up
their union and the public opinion that they are dedicated to work in a
public university because they care about the people who attend, reality
often comes down to the bottom line. They want their money, and
they want their security and academic freedom; to hell with the rigors
of scholarly work. They will present the same thing year after
year, or not present high quality material that one would expect from a
Ph.D. at a university course. |
