| The World Championship was first staged at the Crucible in 1977 and is now as famous for snooker as Wembley is for football, Wimbledon for tennis and Lord's for cricket. This year for the first time 888.com is sponsoring the World Championship. In future it may move but the players want it to stay. They like it because they are close to the audience |

| The stage is carpeted and the SNOOKER arena is installed complete with press watching, boxes for the BBC commentators and photographers and the TV cameras. |
| The Rehearsal Room is converted into the press Room and the Band Room is transformed into an interview area. The Crucible holds less then 1,000 spectatators and tickets each year are eagerly snapped up by the spor'ts fanatical followers. But, with the spectators so close, the theatre has a unique atmosphere and is quite rightly acknowledged as snooker's NO. 1 venue. |
