Touring Section
There is a rumour that the Tourers are all the Oldies with triple rings and wobbly legs. Join us on one of our Sunday morning jaunts (leaving Roe Valley Leisure Centre at 10 am)and after 30-40 miles or so (depending on the weather and what we were all at on Saturday night) we hope you will see
a different picture! The age of our bunch extends from 14 to 70 plus. The ability is equally diverse. What unites us is an enjoyment of cycling on quiet roads with spectacular scenery and the banter that means no one gets the chance to take themselves too seriously.
Within the club we have a touring representative who is responsible for coordinating about half a dozen organised tours each year. For these we make good use various locations throughout the Province and further afield. Most are day tours but a couple each year involve overnights.
(In 2003 we took 4 days on the Isle of Man and 2days in Scotland.) The season usually ends with the local Tour of the Lanes followed by an afternoon BBQ. (The record stands at 8 burgers. No names mentioned!)
Plans for 2004 include Ireland East to West (after the success of last years Ireland North to South) and a tour of the Glens of Antrim. We are always pleased to welcome new comers although Club membership and recognised third party insurance (whether through the club or the CTC) are needed. All abilities are accommodated and welcomed.
If you fancy having a go and would enjoy the chance to form new friendships with like minded people all you have to do is turn some Sunday morning at 10 or contact Charlie at Roe Valley Cycles.
