Roe Valley CCs Northern Ireland Champions and medal winners celebrated their successes at the recent Northern Ireland Cycling Federations Annual Prize Presentation and Dinner.  The club boasts three out of a possible five current Northern Ireland Road Race Champions going into 2003 on top of the many medals also won.

Those present to receive their awards from special guest Rex Bonar were Limavadys Mary Boyd and Kyle Cromie, and Derrys  Michael Watt and Fiona Tracey, who all enjoyed remarkable seasons.

Seasoned racer Mary Boyd won the gold medal in the 10 and 25 mile Time Trial Events and gold again in the Road Race Championships.  She also received a N Ireland record certificate for breaking the N Ireland 50 mile Time Trial record by three minutes.  Mary spent much of 2002 racing in England and on the continent with Bedford based Team Letchworth and is looking forward to another good year with them in 2003.  She also won the Letchworth Womens Cup

Under 16 Kyle Cromie had an amazing season having blossomed last winter into a true contender.  He registered his intent early in the season by placing 8th in the British Schools 10 mile Time Trial Championship before going on to dominate Under 16 racing in the NICF.  He won gold in the 10 mile Time Trial Championship, gold again in the Road Race Championships and finished 1st in the Road Racing League.  Having upgraded himself to race against the senior ranks for the final two races of the season he finished 2nd and 7th to also secure joint 10th in the Senior Road Race league.  He also represented N Ireland in both the Kerry Youth Tour and the Manchester Youth Tour.

Michael Watt only started racing in 2003 and quickly started to establish himself in the Junior ranks.  He took a very creditable bronze medal in the 25 mile Time Trial Championships while finding his feet and then won gold in the Road Race Championships in Feeney in September.  Cambridge University student Michael flew back for the awards ceremony and was delighted to receive his medals and jersey.

Fiona Tracey has been steadily improving through the past couple of years but shone brightly in 2002 taking silver in both the 10 and 25 mile Time Trial Championships and bronze in the Road Race.  She also represented Ulster in the TQ Papers 2 day stage race held in Dublin in October.

Other Roe Valley medal winners were Rachel Henderson who amazingly took silver and a team medal in the Road Race Championship in her first open race and Tom Calvert who took the bronze in the 10 mile Time Trial Championships.

The Club is looking forward to a bright future in 2003.
