Last year's catch was among the best of recent years that we can remember. Schools of weaks were to be found in many of the usual spots, both in larger numbers and larger girth. Early season action began with fair catches outside Money Island and just north of Fortescue. The Elbow produced well thoughout the midsummer months, which we would fish early before drifting toward the Flattop for Fluke. Many a weakie was taken both at anchor and throughout the day during the drift, preferring to hit shedders and killies unless adrift, where squid strips or bucktails with a purple split seemed to produce good action. We continued to harvest fish into September, with much slower results as the seasons intermingled. This year we see more more of the same and then some. We needed a cold winter to sort of stir the seas. Looks to me like we're gonna get one. I've been in a sort of withdrawal lately waiting for warm weather and warm waters to get them going again, and before you know it, it'll be here.
