Uniform Requirements
and
Authenticity Requirements

The standard minimum uniform of the 8th Guards is the M36 or M43 tunic with rank; trousers (or reasonable reproductions of same); leather, canvas, or web waistbelt with rollar buckle of WWII pattern; impregnated canvas or leather jack boots or ankle boots with puttees; pilotka side cap; M40 steel helmet; ammo pouch of the appropriate design for personal weapon; canteen with cover; and guards badge worn on right breast.

Additional gear, although not required, should be added to the basic minimum requirements. These include:

     Rain-cape/shelter half.
     Mess Kit and spoon
     Ruck-sack
     Gas mask bag
     Greatcoat or Padded Jacket
     Fur-cap

The standard firearm is the Mosin-Nagant M91/30 bolt action rifle. This is the standard long arm of the Red Army throughout the war. Other weapons approved for use are:

     Mosin-Nagant M38 Carbine
     Mosin-Nagant M44 Carbine
     PpsH-41 Sub-Machine Gun

      JS-II Heavy Tank

(if you have a question about other weapons please contact the web-master)

It is a well established fact that the Red Army used Lend-Lease weapons and well as captured weapons. Use of these are restricted by the commander on a case-by case issue.
(i.e., Soldatski Pavlov has a MP-40 and wishes to use it. He asks the commander if it is ok for "X" event. Commander approves use. Soldatski Stupidikov has a Garand M1. He asks the commander for permission to use it at "X" event. Commander denies request and sends Stupidikov to see NKVD for a short talk.).

The unit authenticity officer is the Senior Sergeant. Questions of authenticity or uniform should be directed to him. Other personnel may, at an event, be designated authenticity officers. This position is only for that event.

The standards of authenticity will be maintianed from first formation
(apporx. 0630-0700) to last formation 'DISMISSED' (1700-1800. Durning those hours no non-period items will be seen in the tactical camp. These non-period items include but are not limited to:

Digital watches          Eyeglasses          Soda cans          Sleeping bags

Cooking Gear            Books
