The word "hoe" is a slang term which is short for "whore", or prostitute.
While the spoken word hoe is widely accepted, the written spelling is
often hotly contested.  I endorse the spelling "hoe" for
several reasons.

Proponents of "ho" use the argument that in the word "whore", ho and e 
are never contiguous.  I concede that "ho" is the most correct spelling,
but definitely not convenient.  Consider the plural of ho, hos. This is
obviously confusing because it phonetically would sound like 
"I done rode in to town on mah hoss".  Ho-ites will now tell you to use
" ho's " for the plural.  This is blatantly incorrect.  An apostrophe is used 
in conjunctions and to show possession, never plurality.  

There is another small camp who would have you spell it "  ho'  ".  In
that case " ho's  " would be correct for plural hoes.  However apostrophes
are not to be used lightly.  

Furthermore there is the old "garden tool" defense.
