This is a great photo of a taper cut. The hair has been tapered quite short around the nape and above the ears. On top the hair is still around one and a half inches in length and is a little longer (around two inches) in front.
The subject in this photo has a relatively high hair line above his ears. When the hair is tapered very short around the ears, it can emphasize a high hair line like this. If the taper is left a little longer, you can choose whether you want this outline around the ears. This isn't an issue for someone with a lower hair line (or higher ears). The hair line around the ears here does give a nice crisp edge to the cut. (Photo contributed anonymously.)
The "after" photo here, clearly isn't the finished product - it isn't even combed. However, the photo does give an idea of a tapered back and sides. Even at this stage of the cut, there has been a vast improvement. (Photo contributed anonymously.)
