Flattop photos

This photo was donated anonymously by a Buzztown reader. It is a good example of a longer flattop. The back and sides have been tapered, probably to around 1/4 inch. The top is quite long for a flattop, although a flattop can be longer. Some of the the hair at the front seems to be over one inch. There would definitely be no landing strip visiible on this cut.

One of the reasons that the longer flattop looks good in this photo is that the subject's hair seems to be reasonably thick. Although the hair has some flattop/crewcut wax to hold it in place, it still looks as though it is standing up fairly naturally. Thinner hair of this length may look as though it has taken considerable effort to get it to stand up and this can detract from the whole look (although this is just an opinion).

Judging by the length of the clippings on the cape, this is a new flattop (rather than a maintenance cut).

Although the quality of this photo is not too good, it is an example of a classic, conservative 1950s flattop. The hair is clipped short at the back and sides (probably around 1/4"). On top, the flattop the hair appears to be too long to show a landing strip.
