The Future of the Barber Shop - The Dying Breed

Dear Buzztown,

I am a barber and have been for eleven years now. I work in an old fashion barber shop and love every minute of it. The problem is that there are no schools in the Houston area (except black) and no barbers that you can get any help out of. When you have a barber that is good, you hang on to them, but as we know, they will retire sooner or later (which is a goal for all of us). To look for the real barbers is a trying job in itself. The real barbers are a dying breed and if we could, I would like to see schools train barbers - they do offer beautifican classes. Kids could learn all they can (flattops, high and tights, regular, etc.) while they are in classes, and then they can get more on-the-job training from us who have years of expeience. Let's not let this old classic die in front of our eyes. Let's try to change this for all of the barbers out there - from the Houstaon area to the borders of our country.

Thank you,
The Dying Breed.
