I think the barbershop is thriving here in Indiana! I am a female barber, 28 years old and I work in a shop with an older guy. His shop is so busy it's always full of people.
I think the only reason people end up in salons is because the older barbers don't communicate with the customers. They just cut hair and usually too short. I think the younger barbers are learning more techniques and are going to keep the business of barbering going. I love what I do and feel proud to keep a traditional career alive! I look at my customers when they leave and think, a cosmetologist could not do that nice looking taper I just did. Ya know?
My barber school in Louisville, KY was well run and fun to be in. It was always full of students and had lots of repeat customers.
| P.S. | I just wanted to comment that in Indiana and Kentucky there are still barber schools. I was not aware that some states did not have barber schools. I don't know if I would have gone to cosmetology school. I really wasn't interested in doing nails and perming! |
