Friends, this is a trip--finding you on the Net.
I read with the interest the response of the 30-something person and his thoughts about shorter hair, conservatism and the need for younger barbers. I would agree. I work with many 50-somethings and their hair reflects it--long and out of date. Yuk.
I live in the Pikes Peak region and recently found a 30-something barber. While there are probably several good ones around here, he's probably the best and what makes him so is that he's conscientious; he takes time and knows that a good haircut will be a reflection not only on the person but on him, too.
I currently have an Ivy League haircut. It's amazing how many people--even barbers--have trouble accurately doing this cut. I've walked out with some pretty wild stuff--fortunately, hair grows. Sometimes I wonder if some crossover between the cosmetology world and barbers would be helpful. Do as many barbers go to shows and make the necessary modifications to meet changing styles?
