| Me: Well uh she's from New Castle and I can't remember her dad's name. Kojak then asks for the correct spelling of her name and I give it to him. He writes it down on the pad that he has almost filled. He then asks for my drivers license. He tells me to sit down. I do. If you've ever been in trouble like this before, sometimes, in moments like these, you just want to talk to yourself. Saying things like calm down or whatever is on your mind. What is on my mind is that I'm going to jail, I'm not going to make it home, I'm gonna die on the chair. I'd like to say something to this effect, however, I'm still being taped and everywhere I turn my boiled head I see a sign saying so. Now comes the also. Also, Erin's dad has met me and knows where I live. The detective is about to talk to him and my name is bound to come up. I'm gonna die by his hands first, then the state will nuke me, then mom. I can't picture the conversation going my way at all. "Hi this is Detective Kojak from Indiana police, is your daughter ok?" No, that won't work. "Hi, we have pictures of your daughter in duct tape, is she ok? Hmmm? Oh, Jackson Knoll, you know him?" Nope, I'm gonner that way too, and any other way I can see this conversation going. Ready for another also??? Also, there are 45,000 Books in New Castle, my luck he calls the wrong one and they have a daughter named Erin who has been missing for a while. Or found dead in a cornfield in Bedford. We all know how my luck runs. Kojak comes out. He didn't get anyone on the phone. He explains how girls have been disappearing and such and where they find them and how they find them. He tells me how bad this looks for me. He tells me he is only doing his job. I begin to look around for Bubba and a stick to come for me. He says that my story and what mom said seems ok and that he has to hold onto the pictures until it is all cleared up. Then he will call me and I can go to Rite Aid, and pay for the pictures. He asks me to elaborate about the fight. I tell him its only a play fight and everyone was ok. We had rug burns from wrestling around but I left that out. He said that Erin was ok with everything that happened etc. and I said yes. He said that he wasn't taking this entirely seriously but he has to check it out. I told him I understood and it was perfectly ok. I was not going to criticize or pick a fight or make an enemy. I told him I was going home for the weekend if that was ok. Kojak: Well when are you leaving?? Me: Well I thought I'd be on the road by now, but uhh that didn't happen. Kojak: And when will you be coming back? I tell him Sunday and that I leave for work on monday. He tells me that I must leave contact info in case he needs to ask or arrest me something. Then I leave. Now kiddies, its time for the fun fact of the day. Erin talks fast and first. When this detective contacts her she is going to think it is about our apartment being robbed and she'll start rattling off about that. "But you never said anything about your apartment being robbed", you might say. And you'd be right. You see, when Erin left, no one was here. She put the key we gave her in the mailbox. She didn't tell us this. I happened to find a week later. We thought she had stolen it, but here it was in the mailbox for anyone to use to get into the apartment. Soo we told her that someone used the key to get in, stole all our loose change and some other small items. They then rearranged the entire apartment, or so we told Erin. We also told Erin that we blamed each other for it and had a big fight about it cause we each thought the other guy did it and wouldn't fess up to it. She felt bad, but it was rather foolish not to tell us where the key was, or leave a note. So anyway, when he calls, she'll give him this story about the robbery, this will not line up at all with what I've told him, this lands me in more trouble. That was last Friday, this is Friday again. I have not heard from Kojak. So I called him to see if maybe he forgot to call me. He didn't forget to call me, he hasn't been able to contact Erin or anyone from her family. I should not leave the country. Leaving the state isn't a real great idea either. And that's where we are right now. I'm still going to the chair. Jackson |
