USE THE PHONE

Early in the process introduce yourself to your college advisor so that when questions arise she knows who you are. The College Administrator can also   answer many questions if your college advisor is unavailable at the moment   and make appointments for conferences.

SET UP APPOINTMENTS EARLY

When a phone call is not enough to give you the information or assistance you need, please set up an appointment to come in and discuss your questions and   concerns. On occasions parents like to have the opinions and suggestions of   others, the Headmaster, the student?s advisor or other teachers. If enough   notification is given it is possible to arrange college guidance appointments   with faculty members as well as with your college advisor. On occasions   parents feel the need to meet with the college advisor    without their son or daughter. This is perfectly acceptable because   there are often issues that are of concern to parents that are not of concern   to students.

ANTICIPATE YOUR NEEDS

If you can spend some time thinking about the questions that will arise in   the next year, we can be ready with information when you need it. Filling out   Financial Aid Forms, setting up schedules to visit different campuses, and   making appointments for interviews with your son or daughter are all part of   the admissions year. If you can plan these things early it will be much   easier for you to carry out these activities.

DON'T ALWAYS ASSUME THAT YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER IS TAKING CARE OF EVERYTHING

Parents must find a happy balance between watching over their son or daughter to make sure everything is done and allowing them to freedom to do things on their own. If you feel hesitant about what your son or daughter is doing in   terms of applications, interviews, or making decision, but you are wary about   asking, call the college advisor to alert her to your concerns so that she   can give you an idea of where the student is at that point in the application   process.

Attend Parent meetings scheduled throughout the year.
