ITF Announces Postponement of Davis Cup Tie Between USA and India

Francesco Ricci Bitti, President, International Tennis Federation, announced today that the ITF had agreed to the request made by the United States Tennis Association to postpone the Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round tie between the United States and India. Juan Margets, Chairman, ITF Davis Cup Committee, met with representatives of the USTA and the All India Tennis Association at the ITF's Annual General Meeting in Cancun, Mexico, before making this decision. This tie, scheduled for 21-23 September at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will now be played over the weekend of 12-14 October at the same location.

Mr. Ricci Bitti further announced that there is every indication that the other Davis Cup ties, scheduled for next weekend, including the two World Group Semifinals (Australia v Sweden and Netherlands v France) will take place as planned. The decisions to play these ties were also made in consultation with the relevant National Associations.

"The difficult and uncertain situation in the United States has prompted us to agree to the postponement of the USA/India World Group Qualifying Round Tie," said Francesco Ricci Bitti, President, ITF. "The All India Tennis Association was very sympathetic to the request from the United States Tennis Association and we thank them for their co-operation. The extraordinary circumstances make this the correct decision at this time."
